Can a breastfeeding woman get pregnant? |
 |
Question
My wife had a baby boy three months back. She is still breastfeeding. We have had sex twice since the birth, and she hasn’t had a period. Could she be pregnant? |
Answer
Highly intensive breastfeeding (like every three hours or so) has a marked contraceptive effect. However, most doctors would not recommend relying on breastfeeding alone as a method of contraception. |

Breastfeeding will usually prevent the woman from having periods – so this may be why your wife hasn’t menstruated yet.
